# Isleta > The notch, finally doing something — a live island in the black cutout at the top of your MacBook. Isleta is a Mac app that turns the black cutout at the top of a MacBook display into a live surface: an island that peeks when the pointer arrives, expands when it is clicked, and shows what is playing, the level you just set, the notification that just arrived, or the file you just dropped on it. It is free, open source, and it is optically part of the bezel rather than a window drawn near it. ## The shipped build - Version: 1.0.0 - Download size: 4.2 MB - Requirements: macOS 26 or later, Apple silicon. A MacBook Pro or Air with a notch - Download: [https://tryisleta.com/download](https://tryisleta.com/download) ## What it does - **Now playing**: artwork in the sliver left of the notch, a live equaliser in the sliver right. Click and the island becomes a player — track, artist, a draggable position bar, and full transport. Clicking never steals focus. - **Volume and brightness**: the level you just set, shown where your eyes already are, alongside Apple's own HUD rather than instead of it. - **Notifications**: one banner at a time, in the island rather than over the document you are working in. The only feature that asks for Accessibility; decline it and everything else still works. - **Drop shelf**: drag a file onto the notch and it stays there until you drag it back out. It survives the island closing. - **Welcome**: a greeting on wake and unlock, in the right language for the hour and your time zone. ## Privacy Isleta has no account, no telemetry and no analytics. It makes exactly one kind of network request — an update check — and there is a switch for it.
